Hit by operating environment and geopolitical tensions in West Asia, JK Tyre & Industries (JK Tyre) on Friday reported a y-o-y decline of 71.30 per cent in its consolidated net profit to₹65.11 crore in the second quarter this year as compared with ₹227 crore in the same period last year.
EBITDA margin contracted sharply to 7.1 per cent from 13.3 per cent.
However, consolidated revenue from operations grew by around 21 per cent y-o-y to around ₹4,841 crore during the quarter in review as compared with around ₹4,011 crore in the corresponding period last financial year (FY25).
Speaking to reporters, Anshuman Singhania, Managing Director, JK Tyre said that the operating environment remains challenging due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia and the input costs were “persistently higher”, and there were supply chain constraints, including container freight rates that are significantly above historical levels.
He said that the cost of raw materials increased around 9 per cent in the Q2 from the Q1 this year and the cumulative increase over the first six months of the financial year has been around 30 per cent.
And, therefore, “Going further to the third quarter, we are seeing another 4-5 per cent increase in the full raw material basket,” he said adding that the impact will be passed on to the customers.
“We intend to increase prices in the third quarter in the range of 4-5 per cent,” Singhania said. JK Tyre had increased the prices by 5 per cent in Q1, followed by another 7 per cent in the Q2.
Growth momentum
Meanwhile, talking about India business, Raghupati Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director, JK Tyre, said, “India business has picked up significant growth momentum post GST 2.0, anchoring an increase in original equipment (OE) market by 65 per cent, leading to 32 per cent growth in domestic sales, on a y-o-y basis. This has been delivered through disciplined execution across markets and segments.”
He further added that the company remains optimistic on the demand backed by healthy customer traction visible across segments in the coming quarters.
Shares of JK Tyre closed at ₹309.20 apiece on the BSE on Friday, down by 4.30 per cent from the previous close.
